Who Really Feels Their Age Anyway?
Think back to when you were a child and the perception you had of the adults in your life. Think of your parents, aunts, uncles, neighbors, and friends’ parents. Now, as you approach those ages in your life, do you connect with those perceptions you had as a kid?
If you are younger now, take note of the perceptions you have about adults and what you think life is like as an adult. Like me, I bet you will be surprised when you get there.
Finding out who I am as an adult is one of the greatest joys I find in getting older . This is because, like I said in the episode, I do not connect with those perceptions I had as a kid so it’s a total surprise. I mean, I don’t have a house, kids of my own, or feel like I have all the answers. When you were a kid didn’t it seem like adults had all the answers?Fun part is, those adults you formed perceptions of as a kid probably felt this same way when they became adults – totally disconnected from their age.
Generation after generation times change, expectations change, and we change.
No matter how young we are at heart, there are always those little moments in life that make us realize we are indeed getting older. In addition to the examples Marisa and I mentioned in the episode here is another. One day, at the beginning of this year, my sister and I talked on the phone for over an hour. The next time we spoke my sister told me how she told our mom that our conversation made her realize we were getting older. Why? I mean what happened in that conversation? Well, the majority of our conversation was about our health and our ailments at the time.
If you are under 30 I bet that the major topic of conversation with people your age is not about your health.
Embrace your younger years and don’t be afraid to pave your own way in life! Hell, no matter how old you are I believe the same. I heard a fun motto from a friend this week: “Get out of my way, I don’t have much time left and I’ve got a lot to do still.” I plan to start implementing that attitude in my life now!!
What are life’s little moments that don’t let you forget you are getting older?
Who talks about it? We talk about it…now, and you should too!! Please comment and share your thoughts.
